Market mood

CEV-OS Data API · last updated 2026-11-04. Status: live. Version 2.

Use this when you need a quick risk-sentiment read before acting: Crypto Fear & Greed (alternative.me) and the cev-os Stock Sentiment Gauge (0-100, from IEX ETF closes + US Treasury yields), each with its own timestamp and source.

What it is

Combined market-mood snapshot. Components: cryptoFearGreed (0-100, alternative.me classification) and stockSentimentGauge (cev-os's own 0-100 US stock sentiment index; Extreme Fear 0-25, Fear >25-45, Neutral >45-55, Greed >55-75, Extreme Greed >75; previous session value and change; full breakdown at /v1/stock-sentiment). The VIX was removed on 2026-10-30 (Cboe data; FRED terms bar commercial use). CNN Fear & Greed is deliberately omitted (CNN terms bar redistribution) and BTC ETF flows are omitted (only a paid-key source today); see data.omitted.

Parameters

None. This product takes no query parameters.

Example request

No account and no key. Query values below are the examples or defaults from the registry. An optional free key (header x-api-key) raises the limits; create one at https://cev-os.com/#api_keys after signing in with a verified email (Google sign-in is already verified).

Every /v1 response is a JSON envelope (schema_version, product, timestamps, license, attribution, data). The registry example is the data member:

Update frequency

On request, cached 5 minutes per component; crypto F&G updates daily at 00:00 UTC; the Stock Sentiment Gauge is the prior US session (IEX closes land T+1, recomputed 7:45 AM ET with retries 10:45 AM and 1:45 PM ET).

Public cache: 60 seconds (Cache-Control: public, max-age=60).

Sources, license and usage

License status: cleared with attribution. Every input allows commercial use and republishing: alternative.me (attribution next to the data), IEX Historical Data (redistribution and resale permitted with the exact IEX attribution text and terms link, included in each record) and U.S. Treasury yields (public domain). No FRED, Cboe, Yahoo or CNN data.

Gaps

Stocks Fear & Greed (CNN) is human-display only on cev-os.com: CNN terms bar redistribution.
BTC spot ETF flows omitted: the only source in DataHub (SoSoValue) needs a paid key.
The Stock Sentiment Gauge is our own index, not CNN Fear & Greed; it uses realized volatility instead of the VIX, so it reacts about a day later at sharp turns.
